Research and our experience support that the longer a person stays in a treatment environment the better the prognosis. That is why 28 days may not be enough for some relapse-prone and dually diagnosed clients.
Pemarro understands the needs of people who have had multiple relapses and has made Relapse Prevention a focus of our students' treatment. We take our students on an in-depth journey--an exploration of their lives and previous relapses--through the Gorski CENAPS® Relapse Prevention Model. This model allows our students to learn to first identify and then manage the irrational thoughts, unmanageable emotions, self-destructive urges, and self-defeating behaviors that lead to the misery of relapse and even death.
Complementing our relapse prevention work is our multidisciplinary/integrated approach to effective treatment. Our team of licensed counseling professionals takes a comprehensive approach to identifying the many faces of addiction and co-occurring disorders. Our dedicated staff and individualized treatment approach allow us the opportunity to identify destructive, underlying issues and co-occurring disorders and to treat them through variety of therapeutic interventions to meet the individual needs and goals of our students.

Co-Occurring Disorders Program
Our Co-Occurring Disorders Program dramatically improves the success of our students. It is not uncommon for any client in treatment for alcoholism or addiction to also have diagnosed or undiagnosed mental illness. Each student who enters Pemarro undergoes a thorough assessment, including a psychiatric evaluation by a psychiatrist specializing in addiction treatment. The results of these evaluations then become an integral part of our students’ individualized treatment plans.
In addition to our very effective chemical dependency treatment, we provide individual and group psychotherapy, including medication management, when indicated.
Addiction-Free Pain Management®
Pemarro offers an integrated multidisciplinary team approach to successfully treat the complex issue of Chronic Pain and a coexisting addictive disorder. Proper pain management utilizing pharmacological, non-pharmacological and innovative holistic methods allows Pemarro to meet the unique needs of those suffering from chronic pain and substance use disorders. While each person is unique in his or her pain condition, there is a common goal: to reduce pain and suffering, and live free from the bondage of addiction.
Our Chronic Pain program incorporates the Addiction-Free Pain Management® System (APM™) developed by Dr. Stephen Grinstead, Senior Consultant/Trainer for the Gorski-CENAPS® Corporation. The APM™ system includes three major components:
An effective medication management plan
Core clinical interventions using Cognitive Behavioral and Rational Emotive Therapies to effectively manage the bio-psychosocial components of pain
Non-pharmacological and holistic methods of pain management
Our team of Physicians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Psychotherapists, Certified Addiction Counselors, Acupuncturists, Chiropractors, and other Holistic Health Care Practitioners assures a unique, individualized program for each person seeking chronic pain and addiction treatment. This program is offered in both residential and day treatment settings.
Transition to Day Treatment
At Pemarro we believe that transition from structured residential treatment to independent living in recovery should be gradual and guided. Our usual treatment plan includes a transition to outside living accompanied by participation in day treatment. Participation in day treatment is gradually reduced as participation in work and other activities increases.
Aftercare
Students who complete treatment are encouraged to attend aftercare each week. Aftercare helps in transition as well as in maintenance of relapse prevention. Because of our in-depth relapse prevention program, we believe that our graduates can offer each other strong support.
