Bio-Psycho-Social Focus

Good overall health must be addressed in order to help students create a life that supports sobriety and fulfillment. Each student's daily goals include exercise, counseling, group work, and reflection.

Pemarro's History

Pemarro was founded in 1984 by three recovering alcoholics who saw a need for long-term treatment.  Originally modeled after Alina Lodge (New Jersey), Pemarro has, over the years, developed our own style in addressing the needs of people who have had multiple relapses, those with co-occurring disorders, and people for whom chronic pain has resulted in addiction. Our first home was in Imperial Beach, and was called the Beach House.  We subsequently moved to Ramona and changed our name to Pemarro.   Our name has a special meaning – call us at 760-789-8070 or email us to find out!

Gorski/CENAPS®

We utilize the Relapse Prevention Therapy model developed by Terence Gorski.  Gorski’s work is well-researched and is positively associated with successful treatment outcome.

The Gorski foundational premise is that relapse is not an event, but rather a process that begins when a person starts to experience certain thoughts, feelings, urges, and actions.  These behaviors cause reactions by the environment.  The environmental reactions result in exacerbation of the relapse symptoms, and the relapse process continues to progress, ultimately culminating in the use of substances.

Moving through the inherent denial is the first stage in relapse prevention. Students are then helped to identify their individual relapse dynamics and warning signs and to learn methods of intervention so that the relapse can be stopped in its tracks.

Our staff has been trained by Mr. Gorski in facilitating treatment using Relapse Prevention Therapy and Denial Management.
